What did GSIMC do for their second chapter of the Public Speaking Workshop Series?

Last Friday, we proudly invited current IMC graduate students and faculty to our second workshop of the Professional Speaking Series. Unlike the previous one, the main topic was “pitch speeches” otherwise known as “elevator talk”. Suppose you have only 90 seconds to explain your creative idea to your boss.. can you do it? Will your boss clearly understand what you are trying to say? Are you engaging and emphasize your call to action?

Through Cathryn’s great advice and the ability to practice impromptu pitch speeches, we can firmly say our workshop was VERY successful! 🙂

Professor Catheryn Edelstein delivered the lecture and explained how to improve our pitch speech skills. What is your strategy to improve your communication skills?

After the lecture, each participant had an opportunity to deliver a pitch speech to sell a product, service, or themselves. By following the 5 steps (Attention, Need, Satisfaction, Visualization and Action), each person did extremely well and presented with their own unique style. After each speech, the group was able to give feedback and suggestions to the participant. It was a great way to interact with one another and further improve our skills.

GSIMC was pleased to host this second chapter of the series. We hope all participants had a great time and strengthened their communication skills. Remember, pitch speeches are not just for work. You can apply them to your daily life but always remember, make your pitch speech SIMPLE, EFFECTIVE, and PERSUASIVE!
